Tim Bouchette Journ 10/Soc 10 Guerrazzi April 2008 Getting Warped So spring weather has finally hit, the temps are rising, tickets are selling, and bands are readying for another summer trek across the US on the Vans Warped Tour. Fourteen years strong now, the Vans Warped Tour has announced its presence as not only the hottest and craziest summer rock camp, but also as one of summer’s marque music festivals. The Vans Warped tour starts late June and treks its way all summer long through the US, rocking out almost 50 cities with over 100 different alternating bands. Through the years Warped has staged huge acts such as Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Jimmy Eat World, Joan Jet and My Chemical Romance. The lineups are always changing, and there’s an act for everyone to catch. Aside from the in-your-face musical deliverance, the Vans Warped tour is home to many other stints, including comedy acts, fine BBQ, good beer, professional skating/BMX, and cool band/sponsorship merchandise. Warped tour has something to offer everyone, and what better way to enjoy a warm summer day than to slap on some sun screen, dump an ice-cold bottle of water over your head, and dive into a days worth of insanely awesome music. The Warped tour only happens once a year, and what better time than the summer, when school’s out, the weather’s warm, and everyone’s ready to rock out and have a good time. Warped has been an ongoing music act for 13 years now, and with consistently large turnouts it shows no signs of vanquishing in the years to come. Always hosting bands from music television entertainments in MTV or Fuse and those of local alternative rock stations like Live 105, cofounder Kevin Lyman knows how to keep the kids rolling in and coming back. With so many other music festivals happening throughout the summer, Lyman makes sure to keep his lineups strong and fresh mixing it up with both new and classic acts. Lineups are never repetition from the previous year; they always changing. The headlining bands that are set to embark on this summer’s 2008 Warped tour are Against Me, Story of the Year, Angels and Airwaves, Say Anything, and the Academy Is, all bands that were not the talk of Warped 2007. Alongside these acts will be a fresh rotation of up-and-coming new bands like We the Kings, All Time Low, and also warped veterans like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Pennywise, and the Bouncing Souls. These bands will all be split among different stages with the many other acts, and spread out over the course of the entire day. Note, acts are all subject to change so if a band isn’t coming to your stop, you’ve just got to hop in your car and travel to the next. Besides music, Warped also plays host to entertainment with a different scale of activities. With Warped there is much more to enjoy aside from music. After all, it is a music festival and sponsorships are going out of their way to make sure you have a good time. Left to right you can find different stage acts occurring from professional skaters and bikers tearing up their ramps, to standup comedy, or even circus like performances. Look out for the water balloon, pie, or super soaker wars as well; those are always fun. There are tons of acts to take part in if you need a break from the music, or if you’ve got a couple of hours to kill before your band comes on. Warped also has some pretty fine BBQ lined up for its consumers, and a healthy selection of pricey beer if of age that can aid to both hunger and thirst, bettering your festival experience. So Warped Tour is officially less than a couple months away and is set to host a pretty sweet and diverse lineup of bands. Whether you’re a little punk, hardcore, Emo or just a true rocker, the summer rock festival has got it all for you. We have two stops in the Bay Area this year featured in San Francisco on June 21, and in Mountain View on August 15, so if you can’t make it to one try to make it to the other. Warped tour is an awesome experience and definitely a marque summer music festival for the ages that you don’t want to miss out on. So slap on the sunscreen, grab a water, and enjoy the music. |
